However, they often forget to get a weather update on where they’re flying to from where they are flying from. They fail to understand how the weather condition can leave an impact on the vehicle. Thinking about the impact of weather on airport parking and preparation tips is crucial. This is concerning, especially when they’re leaving their vehicle for a longer time period in the parking lot.

Let me share with you something personal, something I learned the hard way. 
4 years ago, I was flying from Chicago to LA. It was the earliest of December. The news was talking about the snow. I was about to park my car in an offsite parking facility near the airport. Not once did I think about the weather despite all the warnings. 
 

I always thought it did not matter. What could go wrong? Snow can’t damage my parked car.

After getting rid of the snow, I discovered my battery was dead. Completely dead. The windshield wipers were frozen straight. I kid you not, it took me more than 3 hours to get my car back going. 
 

And that day I realized something about about the weather and weather parking. Whether parking is not just about being convenient and getting the lowest possible space for your car. It’s all about making preparations before you leave. It’s about taking care of your car’s safety and your peace of mind.

Here’s the thing: when you think about airport parking like how I used to think or what many people still think, it seems straightforward and simple. You visit the parking space, you drive in with your car, you park, and you leave the space and head towards the terminal. It’s this simple.

• Extreme heat conditions can severely damage your parked vehicle. You can expect cracked dashboards of your precious car, faded paint, or, in certain super extreme conditions, even tire pressure issues.

Like I mentioned earlier, most of the travellers who park their cars at the airport parking spaces or even offsite facilities park with optimism. 
They have this belief in them that the weather will be good and there is no need to check on it. Even if the news is talking about impending extreme weather, there’s nothing to worry about. Everything will be fine. 
 

We like to think that weather will somehow corporate. Our vehicle will be just fine. Airport parking is just simple, and we don’t need to worry that much. We can’t be more wrong. 
This is a dangerous mindset. 
 

This is the mindset that makes people end up ignoring insurance and important investing decisions. This is the mindset that makes people end up ignoring warning signs and seeking better parking opportunities for their cars. We think we’re the exception until we realize we’re not.

Double-Check the Weather Forecast 
 

Once you’re all set to fly to your destination, try checking out the weather news. One for the palace you’re flying to, and one for the place where you’re going to park your car. 
Look out for rain or any extreme weather condition. If there’s any, acknowledge that there’s a chance that your parked car will be affected. 
 

Go for Covered/Indoor Parking Whenever Possible
 

This may cost more, but if it’s necessary, it will be worth it. Covered parking protects your car from extreme weather such as heat, rain, and snow. It will be easier for you to start your car on your return. 
 

Prepare Your Car as if You’re Leaving for a Month, Even When You’re Not
 

• Make sure to top off your car fluids.
• Check your car tire pressure
• Clean the windshields
• Remove anything valuable from the car.
• Leave with a windshield cover or a sunshade
   

These may be small steps, but they’ll make a huge difference. 
 

Use a Car Cover 
 

Invest in a car cover that’s waterproof. It will protect from UV rays, snow, rain, and even bird droppings. Plus, it hides what’s inside the car, leaving fewer chances for theft.

This is underrated. Snap some pictures of your car from different angles. If anything happens at the facility while you’re away, you can show them the proof and file for insurance and compensation.
